Folksonomies: The Fall and Rise of Plain-text Tagging | Ariadne

For those of us more accustomed to dealing with formal classification methods, folksonomic tagging brings the potential of disruption, headaches and annoyance; how are such techniques supposed to fit into our tidy world? As unexpected as the success of tagging is, as novel and original as the technique seems, can we do anything but wait and see what the future will bring? Fortunately, there is applicable research - at least two separate strands of research - pre-existing on similar topics.
